I can't post!

This is bizarre, I can't post from my client.

I keep getting server errors, try again later messages from ijournal.

Is it just me? I can post from the website, no problem.

When did this problem start? Are you just getting the generic error message or is it something more descriptive?

It started some time yesterday -- in the evening.

POSTING FAILED

Server Problem. Try again shortly.

(Same as I get when LJ is being stupid.)

I've even rebooted since then.

Web client, no problem. Just this.

Well, that message is usually posted when the LJ server doesn't respond fast enough (ie: it assumes that it won't respond and gives up). This occurs when the LJ server is too busy to handle all the requests.

Usually this isn't surprising because you will be unable to reach the server, too. When you were having this problem and had to post with the web client, did you have any problems with having to refresh pages because of server timeouts, or anything like that?

Last night yes, which is why I didn't post this, but this morning, no. I guess I just hit some hiccups this morning, too.

Looks Familiar
I have two paid and one unpaid LJ accounts (long story). A few weeks back, I was getting the same error message, but only from the unpaid account - the other two worked fine, and I was able to post to the unpaid account from the website. I assumed then it might have something to do with the slower server.

Now, all three accounts appear to be posting fine.

Just happened to me
It just happened to me and I am still not sure why. I tried quitting and restarting the program, but that didn't work. What I had to do in the end was go into my Keychain (in Utilities) and remove that account from it. Then i started ijournal up again and added the account. After that, I have had no problems.

PS, we need to add this topic to the memories because I think this happens to almost everyone now and again.

Re: Just happened to me
The better solution is to make the error message more verbose to append something along the lines of:
"This usually occurs when the LiveJournal server is busy or your network connection is experiencing high traffic. Trying again may result in you getting through."

Changing the keychain is completely unrelated and the only reason it worked after that is because the server was free to accept the connection.

Re: Just happened to me
The key chain had something to do with my problem, not sure what. I was able to post to my other accounts, it was just one that was telling me it was a problem and it was the account that I pay for. I think we should post to the memory all possible solutions to this common question because the message won't be fixed until the next software update (at the soonest). I think its a pretty common occurance so it should go in the memories so that people can check that first and maybe save some time for themselves.

Re: Just happened to me
Sure, might as well.

Some problems can be caused by the Keychain (and I am not sure how that happens but I think it is related to having the new Keychain code stored as well as the old way of doing that) but whenever you get the generic "server problem" error, it is the server connection.
