Userpic Problem

Ever since I’d replaced the “(copyright)” in some of my userpic keywords to just a “©”, iJournal doesn’t seem to want to post any userpic but my default. LJ, however, doesn’t seem to have a problem with it if I'm posting something from the website (including comments).

Is there a reason why this is happening? I hate having to edit every single post to add tags and correct the userpic.

It is happening because that symbol isn't a normal character and we must not be handling that case.

What version are you using?

I'm using 1.54.

Now, it also appears that it's not letting me upload anything to the server anymore; it just hangs until the "Server problems" error pops up several minutes later. However, I can still post via the website. It was working just fine before, even with the © symbols (despite the default userpic always being put up).

If you want, I can give you an early 2.0 beta. If you have the problem there, then I can fix it. I just don't want to hunt through the relatively ugly 1.x code when that branch is going to be declared dead after the 1.70 release (which will occur whenever cryo is satisfied with it).

Thanks, I would like that!

Sorry it took me so long to get this but I have been really busy and forgot about it during the evening where I did have time:

UNOFFICIAL iJournal 2.0 ALPHA.

Note that this version is very incomplete so the build isn't even tracked. This means that we can't give you any official support. If you notice this problem persisting with this build, however, let me know and I will try to fix it.

Thanks, but it's not loading up; I get four bounces or so in the Dock, and then v.2a quits. :\

That is odd. What version of OS X are you running and can you see if anything interesting is written to the console when you try to start it?

I will try to fix it for you if I can get enough information.

Strangely, it's not writing anything to the console.

I'm running Tiger 10.4.2.

Bah, a build problem: it is zero-linked and I didn't notice that in my tests because I hadn't deleted the build location and it uses absolute paths. I will rebuild another one and re-post in a few minutes.

Sorry about that.

Heh, no problem. Glad its not functioning on my computer could help!

Now I am having other linker problems. I will let you know when I have made progress.

Ok, same link as before. I managed to track down the missing framework (as well as updating my tools, while I was at it).

If you need anything else, Jabber is the best place to track me down.

Bugs
Thanks for the alpha copy! It's getting the job done!

There are some bugs you may or may not be aware of, though.

  • It seems to have to log me in every time I post something or switch back to the app. It also hangs a little in doing so (spinning beach ball of endless woe).
  • There is a tendency to get the security wrong. Twice (out of about five posts made) I've had posts show up as private even though I chose "All Friends". And when I go to edit some entries via the web, the protection is "Custom Friends" with no boxes checked, which likely means that the post is as good as private.
  • The userpic drop-down is rather obscure; I'm always forgetting to change it to suit the post. Is it possible to give it a real drop-down menu amongst the others and have the pic change, just like the web posting page does?
  • I'm sure you probably already know, but the "Launch Friends" and "Recent Entries" icons don't work. And there are three new icons that are greyed out as well: lJournalSelector, ljSecuritySelector, and lJPictureSelector. They're not in the Customize Toolbar area, but can these be removed from the toolbar without causing problems?
  • I really liked having the key combos for LJ pages (Cmd-1 through Cmd-whatever). It really made things conveniently accessible.
  • For a while, there, it wasn't letting me click in any text box; I could only tab around.
  • Clicking on the icon in the Dock when there are new friends entries doesn't make your browser automatically open the page, even when that option is selected in the preferences. Clicking the icon in the menubar doesn't open your friends page, either.
  • I can't remember, but I thought that the previous versions would remember your most recent security setting. This one doesn't, though. Is there perhaps a way to make a default setting, like maybe if someone keeps their LJ friends only, they can have iJournal always default to the friends security setting.

There's one more, but I've forgotten it two minutes after it came to me. Ah, well, I just got back from working all night, so I have an excuse. But that covers a lot of the things I've noticed, at least. I hope it helps.

Any ideas? See previous reply for the info you requested. Restarting iJournal does not really fix the problem, either, though sometimes it does. Thanks in advance!

Actually, the problem to which I'm referring is the "Server problem" error mentioned in that first reply that I'm now getting.
