Influx of New Users

Hi there,

I just started downloading and using iJournal today, and I've been really impressed by the program's versatility and interface design. I've been using XJournal for the last year or so and it's met my needs, but with the closed-beta launch of the new Dreamwidth.org journal service, I had to find another client that would allow me to crosspost between DreamWidth and LiveJournal. Many other Mac users are probably going to be in the same boat, and the Dreamwidth service (which is based on the LiveJournal sourcecode) looks like it's shaping up to be fairly popular for many LJ users.

I'm posting here to inquire if you'd be interested in updating the iJournal sourcecode and improving some of the features for the many new users who are going to be scouting around for a new Mac posting client. There are some tech-savvy folks on DW who would probably be interested in this project, and they can probably provide some support if you're willing to work on a new version. I'm also fairly sure that people would be willing to donate a few clamshells if it'd help build upon the great features iJournal already offers.

Anyway, let me know if this sounds like a possibility. If not, thanks for giving us such a good option to begin with, and for working so hard in the past to put together iJournal.

I watch both iJournal and xJournal's community, so this is the second "can I use this with Dreamwidth?" question to pop up on my friends list.

What, pray tell, is so attractive about Dreamwidth over the existing sites using LJ? I went looking at their site and really couldn't find a page that sums up a mission statement.

Dreamwidth Studios has posted here about their guiding principles, but to sum it up, I think DreamWidth is putting together a much more viable, long-term journaling service that will keep the best parts of LiveJournal while adding important new features, combined with a more ethical and sustainable business model.

More emphasis is placed on stuff like privacy concerns. DW improves your ability to maintain, control and filter your reading/friends-list and determine who has access to your journal entries. DW also promises to be a very fan-friendly journaling service, which I appreciate given LiveJournal's policies on creative ownership, censorship and how they've handled TOS violations in the past. There's more transparency and oversight with the DW system, too: I know who owns the servers, and I know that they will stand behind me, legally speaking.

DW is in closed beta right now so there are still some kinks with the system, but it'll move into public launch on May 1st. I think it might be worthwhile, if you're curious, to go set yourself up as an OpenID user there once the open launch has gone through. You can poke around a bit and check out some of the differences from LJ, and see if it appeals to you. My journaling needs are probably different from yours, but I do think this is the next step in online journals. Not knowing who will own LJ in six months or a year makes me nervous about what'll happen to all the content I've generated, y'know?

More appropriately, what doesn't work so far? I have been given an invite yet so if there are protocol changes of better be versioned.

updating ijournal for dreamwidth
hi -- new ijournal user here, support minion on dreamwidth, experimenting with ijournal because somebody reported interaction problems (turns out to be user error).

basic posting works just fine, as do moods and those things, but because dreamwidth has split the "friends" feature set into "access" and "subscribe, anything friends-related doesn't work at this point.

i am real tired and have a bit of a hard time parsing your comment, but if you don't have an invite yet, let me know and i'll give you one.

Re: updating ijournal for dreamwidth
ah, yes... engrish ftw. "if there are protocol changes [to flat] they better be versioned [the version bit set to 2 (currently set to 1 pretty much everywhere)]. I do not have an invite code, but I won't complain if one ends up in my email. :)

I'd certainly be keen on an integrated LJ/DW client for the mac!

+1 for LJ/DW integration. From the look of my flist, at least, there's a lot of interest in DW, but many people plan to stay around LJ as well for quite some time.

Haha, I just tried to crack open the iJournal app in order to replace "greatestjournal.com" with "dreamwidth.org".

And I realised I am WAY not savvy enough to pull it off.

So, +1

Hi! I recently opened an account at dreamwidth, which is at the moment a free account.
Since I'm paying my lj (and therefore have many icons to play with) I wanted to crosspost to both sites.

I know dreamwidth allows you to crosspost from their web page, but I've always post it from a client.

Now my question to you is (if you could help me. I'd really appreciate it!), how do I set my iJournal to do that.
My primary account is my account at lj, but well...*sigh* I'm VERY lost. I've actually never crossposted to two sites at once.

Would you mind helping me out.

I was using first Semagic (I had a PC) and as soon as I switched to MAC I started to use Xjournal (which doesn't allow crossposting).
So can you help me???? *begs*

Thanks :)
