In fact, I'm new to Macintosh, so the question is probably extra dumb....

I've just installed the OS X client on my Powerbook, and every time I restart the computer, the icon has disappeared from the desktop screen and I must drag the dmg file out of the trash...

What am I doing wrong?

you ahvent really installed the cliet, what youre doing is more akin to running it off of a floppy which much be re-mounted every time you restart. Open the IMG and drag the app to your hard drive somewhere (the Applications folder would be a good idea) then trash the IMG and launch the app from your hard drive.

Yeah, that did it.

I figured it was something silly I was overlooking.

Thanks.

Just curious, but why even restart? OSX is a lot like unix, it can go for days, weeks, or longer without needing to re-start.. Just choose "Sleep"..

OSX is the bomb
Heh, before, macintoshes were sooo incredible scorned upon. I have always used them for my whole life. Unlike AOL, the phrase "It keeps getting easier and easier" works well for Mac. I have even, the really ignorant windows users now coming up to me and saying that it looks incredibly nice. I say, "Thats because its mac". They always reply with "no way". I just laugh at them and tell them they need to break free of Bill Gates' hand and find a Real OS if not mac, then Linux or Unix.
