iTunes song update

One thing that really annoys me is the amount of lag time (read: the Spinning Rainbow CD Of Doom) in the fetching of the current song from iTunes. This would be on the top of my to-fix list.

That appears to be iTunes hogging that. The function is pretty much just running the applescript script and talking to iTunes. I haven't spent too much time trying to debug that, but one of the things you can do is turn it off, and select the music icon before posting... but you'll still have to endure the 3-5 second pause as it fetches it. It is on my list to see if it can be improved.

Theres also that strange pause the first time you tab into the text view for the message body. I always get he rainbow cursor there too. Haven't figured out why.

oascript
Apple must offer a more direct way to invoke scripting from Cocoa.

The Classic, and perhaps Carbon, way to do it is to build up a AppleEvent out of OSA descriptors, send it, and watch for the result.

Glad to learn it's not just me experiencing this. Sounds like a separate thread is definitely the way to go.
