I hadn't even noticed that feature. Very cool! My only nit to pick with that is that I think the menu item for editing friends should more logically go under the Edit menu.

Am I crazy?

hmm ... you make me wish that there was the ability to marry software... but.. sadly.. audion 2 auto detect only detects the name of the song and doesn't even follow what you customize in preferences..
why's that happen??

frasier will have to figure that out since he's the guru for the iTunes/audition code.

Great, everything seems to be great, I love the new dock-icon-menu as well, though the new Edit Friends interface could use polishing. Here are my suggestions as to some improvements you might consider making in the next version...
  • Those arrows stick out... If you'd like some better ones I wouldn't at all mind making them, I think I vaguely remember a request for better arrow icons a long time ago. Just tell me what color you think each of the arrows should be (i.e. blue for mutual friends, red for on your friends list, green for not on your friends list, possibly grey for communities? (or not)), and I'll make a little round icon with arrows inside of it and give you the alpha layer so it looks nice when you select a row in the table of friends.
  • The "Add Friend" dialog itself should probably be a sheet? I switched to another application while I was trying to decide on the colors for a friend, and I came back and it was hidden behind the client's window. It would be cool to use a sheet, no?
  • The drawer for editing colors in the "Add Friend" dialog just doesn't seem well planned. Do you need a drawer for that? Most everyone customizes their friend colors, that's why they're there. There is plenty of room in the dialog (or sheet) for the little color-buttons to select a color, so why not just keep them in there and simplify it?
  • I would like there to be a preview of the colors with the friends' name, like in the Windows client, so I can see if the colors are too close together and to just get a feel of what it'll look like.
  • I can't recall if this is in the Windows client or not, but I think it is.. I'd also like to see a way to edit my friends' colors, for example if i select someone in the list I already have on my friends list, the "Add Friend" button could maybe turn into an "Edit Friend" button (though then you'd have the problem of how to deselect a friend in order to add a friend who doesn't have you on their friends list in the first place), or something. It's completely illogical how you have to do this on the web, you have to delete a friend and re-add them with the new colors, which I believe may even break friends groups. That isn't an iJournal issue, granted, but it would be cool for iJournal to put in a little feature that fixes it.
  • This is just my personal preference, but I think the "Edit Friends" dialog would appear better if the edges/boundaries of the tabs were extended to or beyond that of the window edges. I only say that because IMO it lends to a cleaner interface.
  • Another personal preference one, I thought the little status bar made more sense right-justified at the bottom of the entry window, below the Submit button. I think the right side is pretty much standard in most browsers with status bars, no?

Okay, well, I'll wait to see what you think of my ideas, I'm now looking for commentary and things wrong with your great client. :) Thanks to everyone who helps with iJournal, it's truly cool.

P.S. Do you still need someone to make some "pretty" webpages? :) I can show you some of my work if you'd like, and then you can tell me what you're looking for. I do mockups and layouts for people during my free time often, just for the experience/recognition.

it could just be that i'm being dumb... but i'm having troubles with the new client version...
i can't seem to get to the edit friends dialog at all. i select it in the menu, the progress doohicky barber-polls, and then nothing happens...
also, if the client can't contact the server when it's checking for new posts, it freezes up. granted, the old one used to quit...

First of all, I have to say that I agree with everyone else who has praised the new features. I was playing with my friends list earlier, and I dig it muchly.

About 5-10 minutes ago the iJournal dock icon started bouncing like a mofo. There was no friends notification, so I clicked over to see what was going on. A new client window opened up and I kept getting the error message: "Unable to connect to proxy or server" I would click okay, and again the message would pop up. This happened at least ten times before I finally got frustrated and tried to quit. I say tried, because it didn't. I had to force-quit.

I opened it up again and it was all fine, except of course all my settings were gone.

i've seen this too, but never researched what was causing the crash...
i'll try and take a look tho.

i just checked in a fix for this to cvs. if the checkFriends call fails, you won't know about it, and more importantly won't get the infinite looping error sheet.

Say, Cryo, what's the road map for adding support to other blogs? I just found Blosxom today, and thought iJournal would be amazingly enabling as an interface for people to do their own blogs. And it just involves saving text files locally. I'd be willing to give this a shot, but it would help to know just how it might fit into the whole iJournal architecture.

It almost goes without saying, but the new client is looking great. Thanks. Also kudos to Fraser on the improved iTunes support. No more garbage output on all those Sigur Ros tunes... ;)

I saw that on virgintracker, but didn't look at it too closely. The idea is that once we've got history finished that we break everything starting with 1.50 to add the toolbar, and build the APIs, move LiveJournal support out to a library-like thingy, and add in support for blog as well as others (like the thingy I'm working on that is individual website based, yet has a telephone book for friends...)

client will not download in Netscape 6.2.1

bug in netscape/mozilla... I believe it's been reported in bugzilla, but I'll go look. The gist of it is that the .gz is confusing it because the browser will accept compressed -HTML-. Try with IE that came with X for now.

already did that. thanks
