Feature suggestion

I'd like it if there were a setting to the 'Make Link > Link to User' that would either (a) output the tag with the username replaced by the "full" name that they have set in their journal profile, or (b) let you type in the name that you wanted to have appear as the link to their journal.

iJournal can't really control how the <lj user> tag is formatted when displayed...

I'd also say that the <lj user> tag is the 'correct' way of making links, since they can be automatically updated by the server (since they're generated on demand) if the URLs to journals were to change, whereas a manual link to, say http://www.livejournal.com/users/gwynn_aaron/ would break if LJ were to stop using the /users/ URL.

Not that I think it's likely to, but it's a possibility.

Also, by using the <lj user> tag, the code should work on non-Livejournal.com journals too, again whereas a manually created link to a livejournal.com domain wouldn't (and iJournal shouldn't have to figure out how to arrange that, since the URL might change from install to install).

Link to user is an LJ function. It is coded to work how it does, look at the code:
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<ljuser="ljusername">') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

Link to user is an LJ function. It is coded to work how it does, look at the code: <ljuser="ljusername">, it produces an icon and the user's name - nothing more. If you want a custom name/title, use the link to url function, type in your custom title, then manually enter the url: http://www.livejournal.com/users/ljusername

To change the link to user function to automatically generate the code to link to a user and use a custom title, would also require to load several different livejournal style website url's into the program so the user can select which site they are using..

I don't know that the extra bloat is worth the function.

This is a feature that was introduced into the ljwin32_sema client and is slowly becoming more popular, so don't be surprised if you see more people asking for this in the future.

For the reasons already stated in the two comments here, in addition to the reason that it is just plain confusing when you're used to seeing the <lj user> tags representing actual usernames, I don't think this is something that should be encouraged. LJ is complex enough without changing the expected behavior of some very basic-to-LJ things.
