Wanna beta test something?

Here's a current build with checkfriends and iTunes2 support, right here.

I'm still trying to hold off doing a formal release until I get the Group code working in a way that is reasonable visually.

Reply to this about things that break or don't look/act quite the way you expect it to.

I scoured the interface to check on the checkfriends feature, and nearly despaired of finding it. But up it pops on the menu bar, and it "just works". Cool.

However, it doesn't match Apple interface guidelines, in which icons are supposed to be grey-scale only.... I'll see what I can do....

everybody's a critic
and it seems a bit tricky that a click on the menu bar sends you the the friends page whether or not the icon is present. yadda-yadda-yadda.

How about using penbwsm.png as the B&W icon?

because it looks like shit. There's some weirdness where the scaling would happen with the icon in the status bar. You could try it ;). I threw the current image in because it looked reasonable enough, but it's not the final. If you can point me to where the interface guidelines specifically state it to be in B&W, I'd appreciate it... I couldn't find anything when I went to look. Everything is [to be documented] crap.

the clicking on status bar without the icon and it launching you to there, is a bug though. I don't reset the selector but only the icon image. I'm considering making it a menu.

I'm also considering having a tiny goat.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

Re: Hi!
Okay, I thought I had seen documentation on the Menu Status Items, but it turns out everything says that it's "reserved for Apple." Looking at the existing icons, I note that the tiffs (in, e.g., System:Library:CoreServices:Menu Extras:PPP.menu:Contents:Resources) are precisely 22x22 and have background masks of #000000 Black. Stop me if you've heard this one.

I'm also considering having a tiny goat.

Um, Cryo? That's more detail than we needed... ;p
seriously, that could work as an icon, too.

good job! ^_^ i noticed that if you're listening to a song where you only have the title and no artist or album listed in itunes it shows up that you're listening to song_title - -... any way to fix it up so it doesn't return those extra dashes around where the artist and album would be?

also, while i'm asking about the new music importing feature with itunes 2, is there a way to let the user choose in what format it would display the song they're listening to as? like, if we didn't like it as song - artist - album we could have the client display it as song - album - artist or some other variation of that?

if neither of these is possible, that's ok - i'm just very used to entering in my songs as song - album - artist is all... ~_^

keep up the good work ^_^

I feel like I have the wrong version or something... its not picking up what song Im listening to, and I dont see any pencil anywhere, for the friends page feature. Im using LJ 1.45, iTunes 2.01 and OS X 10.1...

I lied. the friends page pencil icon thingy works just fine.

What icons are you all talking about? I don't see any "icons". And where is checkfriends? I'm f00kin' confused as all hell here! This beta looks exactly like the old one, with the exception of the iTunes2 feature.

I'm really concerned by the fact that people are confused over something that works transparently. So far, people have requested that there be some switch thing so they can 'see it working or not', 'add a button' next to song to update it.. I guess so people can feel they are somehow 'helping'. heh. I'm not sure what people were expecting it to be.

Anyway... after much confusion, and people not reading the README... I'll add the gui elements you've requested, but I have not come up with a method of specifying the order of the artist/album/song format... yet.
